چکیده

The cell-mediated immune response of cattle to Mycoplasma mycoides var. mycoides was studied. Sensitized lymphocytes in blood leukocyte preparations showed a significant degree of antigen-induced transformation, judged by the uptake of tritiated thymidine. The increase in tritiated thymidine uptake in sensitized lymphocytes in the presence of M. mycoides membrane antigen varied from 2- to 13-fold compared with the controls, and this increase in activity was observed from 3 days after artificial infection. Inhibition of leukocyte migration by M. mycoides membrane antigen commenced between 17 and 30 days after infection, and preliminary observations indicate that this test correlated with the intradermal allergic test. M. mycoides-induced unresponsiveness was demonstrated 23 and 30 days after infection. Unresponsiveness, in that the lymphocytes did not respond to phytohemagglutinin, was very marked in two of three animals and partial in the third animal, whereas the humoral antibody response did not appear to be affected. Antigen-induced transformation was demonstrated in only two out of six cattle vaccinated two months previously with M. mycoides T(1) broth culture vaccine, and óne animal only gave a doubtful intradermal allergic reaction. A further six cattle vaccinated 15 months previously were negative to both the leukocyte migration inhibition test and the intradermal allergic test.

Clinical, humoral and IFNgamma responses of cattle to infection with Mycoplasma mycoides var. mycoides small colony and attempts to condition the pathogenesis of the infection.

Contagious bovine pleuropneumonia (CBPP), caused by Mycoplasma mycoides var. mycoides small colony (MmmSC), is one of the most important diseases of cattle in Africa. The role of innate or acquired cell mediated and humoral immunity in conferring protection against MmmSC infection has not yet been elucidated. On the other hand, the pathological lesions caused by the aetiological agent have been...

Characterisation of the lymph node immune response following Mycoplasma mycoides subsp. Mycoides SC infection in cattle.

Contagious bovine pleuropneumonia (CBPP), caused by Mycoplasma mycoides subsp. mycoides biotype Small Colony (MmmSC), is still a major cattle disease in Africa. Development of long-term protective vaccines, the only relevant strategy to achieve CBPP eradication, requires the characterisation of the protective immune mechanism. To this aim, the present study investigated the cellular immune resp...

Immunoelectrophoretic analysis of Mycoplasma mycoides var. mycoides.

Acrylamide gel electrophoresis was used to show the similarities and differences in the membrane proteins of two vaccine and two virulent strains of Mycoplasma mycoides var. mycoides. Immunoelectrophoretic (IEP) analysis was also used to partially characterize the associated antigens. Antibody spectra to the antigens of M. mycoides differ in rabbit, pig, and cattle sera. Rabbits produce better ...

Vaccination of Cattle with the N Terminus of LppQ of Mycoplasma mycoides subsp. mycoides Results in Type III Immune Complex Disease upon Experimental Infection

Contagious bovine pleuropneumonia (CBPP) is a serious respiratory disease of cattle caused by Mycoplasma mycoides subsp. mycoides. Current vaccines against CBPP induce short-lived immunity and can cause severe postvaccine reactions. Previous studies have identified the N terminus of the transmembrane lipoprotein Q (LppQ-N') of M. mycoides subsp. mycoides as the major antigen and a possible viru...

The clinical course of infection following endobronchial inoculation of three strains of Mycoplasma mycoides subspecies mycoides small colony (MmmSC), the causative agent of Contagious Bovine Pleuropneumonia (CBPP), was compared in 15 mixed-breed Bos taurus steers. Two of these strains have not previously been investigated under experimental conditions. The cattle were inoculated endobronchiall...
